Strategy & Partnerships
Upwelling does not create nutrients. It reveals them. That is what I do — for organisations, ecosystems, and the people leading them.
The Ekman Spiral
In oceanography, the Ekman spiral drives upwelling — connecting what is deep with what is possible at the surface.
The gap most organisations face
You have a clear vision. You have the capabilities. But the right partnerships haven't formed, the stakeholders aren't aligned, and the growth opportunities stay just out of reach. The problem is rarely a lack of resources. It is a lack of alignment.

The Strategic Manifesto
In climate science, El Niño brings abundance — warm water, energy, resources. But without the right conditions, that abundance creates chaos, not productivity. La Niña restores alignment. Cooler, structured, precise — it creates the conditions where ecosystems thrive and lasting productivity emerges.
The same is true in organisations and ecosystems. The challenge is rarely adding more resources. It is aligning the ones that already exist.
Abundance without alignment. More funding, more structures, more initiatives — fragmentation increases, impact diffuses.
Strategic alignment. Existing resources connected around a shared vision. Productivity that endures beyond the project.
Ana Rita Ferreira
In oceanography, upwelling is the process by which deep, nutrient-rich waters rise to the surface — not creating productivity, but revealing it. It was the subject of my first scientific work, and it became the thread that runs through everything I have done since: in marine science, in fisheries, in climate, in innovation, and now in strategy and management.
Throughout my career I have seen organisations searching for solutions they already possessed. Communities overlooking their own strengths. Institutions competing when they could collaborate. Projects funded without continuity. Talent hidden beneath fragmentation.
Upwelling was born from a simple conviction: the greatest opportunities are often already there — hidden, disconnected, waiting for alignment.
Each engagement begins with a conversation. Choose the format that fits where you are.
A focused 90-minute session to cut through complexity. We map where you are, where you want to go, and what's actually blocking you — partnerships, positioning, growth, or alignment.
